Teacher PD Workshops offered at DJD

Decidedly Jazz Dancworks is offering workshops for school dance teachers. All workshops are held at the DJD Studio’s: 1514 4 street SW, Calgary. (Parking is available in the lot behind DJD, accessed from 15^th avenue.)

Tuesday January 4, 2011

5:15-8:45PM  - Techniques of Three Jazz Dance Icons: Taught by Artistic Assistant, Company Dancer and DJD instructor, Sarisa F de Toledo and DJD Instructor and Professional Training Program Director, Jamie Freeman Cormack. Each hour of this three-hour session will focus on the technique and foundations of Luigi, Betsy Haug, and Matt Mattox. Participants may register for individual workshops or register for all 3 (highly encouraged!).

4:00-5:30 - Modern/Contemporary Warm up and Floor work: Taught by local contemporary dancer, choreographer and instructor, Jennifer Mahood. Explore different possibilities to be shared with your students in the modern/contemporary aesthetic. Warm-up techniques, and a focus on floor work possibilities will be discussed and experienced. Come ready to move.

7:15-8:45 – Understanding alignment and proper technique for Jr and Sr high dance students: Taught by DJD Instructor and Professional Training Program Director Jamie Freeman Cormack. Whether your dance program caters to recreational dancers or to higher level dancers of the future, this workshop will explore concepts that will allow for deeper understanding of basic dance technique and how to apply them within a Jr and/or Sr high school setting. Group discussion will be encouraged, but much of the exploration will be done as physical movers.

Tuesday January 11, 2011

6:30-8:00PM - Latin Styles: Taught by Artistic Assistant, Company Dancer and DJD instructor Sarisa F de Toledo. Come experience the fire and passion of Latin rhythms and dances. Find understanding in Latin groove, syncopation and the differences between some of the more common rhythms.

FEES:

January 4th - $20 /Class + GST or $50 + GST for all three (3) 

January 10^th and 11^th – all classes $25/class + GST

Registration is encouraged. Insufficient registration by FRIDAY DECEMBER 17 may result in classes being cancelled.
